At its June 14 meeting the Lemon Grove School District Governing Board approved a Universal Prekindergarten (UPK) plan, ratified labor agreements affecting classified and certificated staff, and reported a closed-session personnel action involving a certificated administrator.
The board, which met in open session after a 5:01 p.m. adjournment to closed session, reported that regarding Closed Session item 2.B (held under Government Code § 54957) it took action to give notice of release and reassignment for a certificated administrator identified in the agenda as “2021-22-6212.” Trustee Cheryl Robertson moved the resolution; Trustee Greg Shibley seconded, and the vote was 5–0 (Trustee Dr. Javier Ayala, Trustee Yajaira Preciado, Trustee Cheryl Robertson, Trustee Timothy Shaw, Trustee Greg Shibley voting yea). The administrator’s name was not disclosed in open session.
The board unanimously approved the district’s Universal Prekindergarten plan. Trustee Timothy Shaw moved the motion and Trustee Greg Shibley seconded; the final resolution carried 5–0. Trustees also approved the district-level and school-level Parent and Family Engagement policies, which the board characterized as part of the district’s outreach and early-childhood program planning.
On labor items, the board approved an amendment to the Memorandum of Understanding with the California School Employees Association (CSEA) to facilitate monthly salary payments (motion by Trustee Greg Shibley, second by Trustee Yajaira Preciado; vote 5–0). The board also approved a Lemon Grove Teachers Association (LGTA) MOU adjusting hours for the AMP music teacher (motion by Trustee Timothy Shaw, second by Trustee Yajaira Preciado; vote 5–0).
Several personnel-related job descriptions and the certificated management salary schedule were moved for further consideration to the June 28, 2022 meeting. Items postponed by unanimous motion included the Classified Unit Pay Rate Index Chart, Program Specialist — Special Education, Coordinator — Student Services, Certificated Management Salary Schedule, Senior Custodian, Media Specialist, Nutrition Services Site Lead, and Traffic Safety Assistant.
The board approved a new job description for Coordinator — Special Education (motion by Trustee Greg Shibley, second by Trustee Dr. Javier Ayala; vote 5–0). The consent agenda passed unanimously and included minutes, personnel reports, contract ratifications and purchase orders, warrants and piggyback bids; Item 7.N (contract approval for Diane Sweeney Consulting) had been pulled from the agenda earlier but was approved during the meeting.
Superintendent Erica Balakian was listed on the meeting roster. The meeting opened with the Pledge of Allegiance led by San Miguel student Luna Laborin Villalobos and adjourned at 9:19 p.m. The board did not take public comment on items not on the agenda.
Next procedural steps noted by the board include scheduled follow-up on the items moved to the June 28 meeting; no additional hearings or deadlines were announced during this session.
