Lemon Grove trustees elect Cheryl Robertson president, approve 2022 calendar, committees and budget

The Lemon Grove Governing Board completed its organizational and administrative business at its Dec. 14 meeting, electing Cheryl Robertson as board president and approving the 2022 meeting calendar, committee assignments, multiple procurement actions and the First Interim Budget Report.
A motion to elect Trustee Greg Shibley as board president failed on the first ballot, with Dr. Javier Ayala and Greg Shibley voting yea and Trustees Yajaira Preciado, Cheryl Robertson and Timothy Shaw voting no. The board then elected Trustee Cheryl Robertson as president; that motion passed with Preciado, Robertson and Shaw in favor and Ayala and Shibley opposed.
Trustees unanimously elected Yajaira Preciado as vice president and Timothy Shaw as board clerk.
The board adopted the times, dates and locations for regular and special meetings in 2022, approving two date changes: the March 3 special meeting was moved to March 1, and the April 30 special meeting was moved to May 7. The board also adopted meeting information and rules for the calendar year.
The board approved committee appointments for 2022 as listed on the agenda: Calendar Committee (Dr. Javier Ayala); City–School District Collaboration Committee (Yajaira Preciado and Greg Shibley); Committee on African‑American Achievement and Success (Timothy Shaw and Cheryl Robertson); District Advisory Committee (Cheryl Robertson and Dr. Javier Ayala); District English Learner Advisory Committee (DELAC) (Yajaira Preciado, alternate Greg Shibley); Early Learning (Cheryl Robertson, Yajaira Preciado, alternate Greg Shibley); Employee Wellness/Insurance Committee (Yajaira Preciado); Independent Citizens' Oversight Committee (Greg Shibley); PTA Council (Timothy Shaw); Special Education Advisory Committee (Cheryl Robertson, alternate Yajaira Preciado); Student Health & Wellness Committee (Greg Shibley, Cheryl Robertson, alternate Dr. Javier Ayala).
On business items, the board approved the Educator Effectiveness Block Grant Plan, ratified RFP #2021-22-01 to establish an architect pool, and accepted the First Interim Budget Report for 2021-2022. The board also approved purchase orders, contracts and equipment quotes on the consent agenda and later approved Resolution No. 2021-22-06 to increase the revolving cash fund amount after it was pulled earlier in the meeting.
During opening public comment, Lemon Grove Academy Middle School teacher Annie Emery urged the district to permit classroom volunteers and partnerships with local engineering firms and students from San Diego State University, calling the program an "excellent opportunity" to give students more attention on complex labs.
The meeting adjourned at 9:44 p.m.
