Evlyn Andrade, identified in the minutes as Martinez's sister, also urged the board to support Martinez, saying the family has faced "a lot of adversity" and that Martinez, "as a single mother herself," understands the challenges parents face and is invested in the community.
Before the appointment vote, the board approved the meeting agenda on a motion by Timothy Shaw, seconded by Yajaira Preciado; the motion carried unanimously. The special meeting adjourned at 7:25 p.m. Superintendent Erica Balakian and Board Clerk Yajaira Preciado were recorded in the minutes.
