District outlines summer programs, testing options and new job descriptions
Summary

District administrators presented summer programming and testing updates and introduced several new or revised job descriptions at the May 11 meeting.
Executive Director of Educational Services Marianna Vinson described three summer programs: San Miguel Elementary will emphasize STEM (science, technology, engineering and math); San Altos Elementary will emphasize VAPA (visual and performing arts); and Lemon Grove Academy Middle will emphasize STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math). Vinson framed the programs as differentiated offerings aligned with site strengths.
Vinson and Educational Services Coordinator Sally Ahern provided an update on annual state testing amid COVID‑era flexibilities, explaining the district may use local testing options or statewide Smarter Balanced assessments such as CAASPP, CAST, CAA and iReady where appropriate.
Rebecca Burton, Executive Director of Student Services and Special Education, presented first readings of new and revised job descriptions intended to strengthen special education and intervention supports: a Special Education Instructional Coach, a Speech and Language Pathology Assistant to bring services in‑house, an Intervention Teacher funded through the Expanded Learning Opportunities Grant, and a revised Extended Day Program Attendant role to support enrichment services.
Those items were presented for first reading; the minutes record the presentations but not final board action on the job descriptions at this meeting.
