The Lemon Grove School District Governing Board reported on actions taken in closed session May 11, ratifying a settlement agreement with a permanent certificated employee and appointing a new principal.
By a 5–0 vote the board ratified settlement agreement 2020-21-2359, which addressed an employee’s resignation/retirement in exchange for a severance payment and resolved claims related to that employee’s employment with the district. The minutes do not identify the employee by name.
The board also voted 5–0 to appoint Steven Goldberg as principal of San Altos Elementary School, with the appointment to take effect July 1, 2021. The motion was reported out at the open session reconvening at 6:15 p.m.
Trustees present for the vote were Larry Loschen, Yajaira Preciado, Cheryl Robertson, Timothy Shaw and Greg Shibley. Superintendent Erica Balakian was in attendance during open session.
The board’s report to the public described the settlement only as resolving “any and all differences or disputes related to the employee’s employment with the District” and cited the closed‑session authority under Government Code provisions. No additional terms beyond the severance payment and effective dates were disclosed in the public minutes.
The board will implement the appointment on July 1 and the district did not provide further operational details about the leadership transition in the published minutes.
