Newton council approves consent agenda including budget amendments, appointments and contract actions

On Dec. 6 the Newton City Council approved a consent agenda encompassing a range of routine administrative and financial items.
The consent agenda included tax releases and sewer adjustments; a resolution appointing a deputy finance director; the 2023 regular city council meeting schedule; a road-closure request; appointments to boards and commissions; budget ordinance amendments to recognize insurance claim revenue and appropriate funds to replace a totaled water-treatment-plant vehicle and to repair a pump damaged by lightning; approval of a capital police vehicle purchase and acceptance of related donations; reallocation of American Rescue Plan funds for Thornburg Drive wastewater engineering costs; a bid award for streetscape lighting; a resolution authorizing the city manager to execute easements and rights-of-way; an amendment to the fiscal year 2022 audit contract; and a budget ordinance amendment to recognize Rotary Club of Newton-Conover donations and authorize expenditures in the police department.
The consent agenda was approved unanimously on a motion by Council Member Jody Dixon, seconded by Council Member Ed Sain.
