Fillmore County supervisors approve claims, surplus sheriff vehicles and conditional bridge culvert plan

The Fillmore County Board of Supervisors met March 10, 2026, in the courthouse boardroom in Geneva and approved a series of routine financial and operational items, including payment of presented claims and payroll, fee reports, equipment surplus, and multi-year inspection contracts.
Chairman Jeff Neiman presided over the meeting. Supervisor Mark Lightwine moved and Supervisor Ralph Graham seconded approval of the claims as presented; the roll call vote was recorded as Ayes: Larry Cerny, Ralph Graham, Kenny Harre, Mark Lightwine, Jeff Neiman, Merle Noel and Wade Sluka; Nays: None. The claims list included numerous vendor payments across funds and payroll totaling $64,814.30 in the General Fund and $34,446.22 in the Road/Bridge Fund.
The board next approved February fee reports after a motion from Lightwine and a second from Larry Cerny. Reported totals included: County Clerk $18,112.34 (State $10,301.43; County $7,810.91), Clerk of the District Court $779.11, and County Sheriff $2,400.99. The motion passed on unanimous roll call.
Supervisors also authorized surplusing a 2018 Dodge Ram 1500 SSV and a 2019 Dodge Durango SSV from the sheriff’s fleet for auction; the motion was moved by Supervisor Ralph Graham and seconded by Supervisor Kenny Harre and passed unanimously.
On public-safety maintenance, the board approved a three-year contract with Nebraska Fire Sprinkler for semi-annual courthouse and road department sprinkler inspections and a three-year contract with Protex Central for annual fire extinguisher inspections at the Road Department. Supervisor Wade Sluka moved to approve the sprinkler inspections (seconded by Larry Cerny); Supervisor Kenny Harre moved to approve the Protex Central semi-annual alarm inspection (seconded by Wade Sluka); and Supervisor Ralph Graham moved to approve the Protex annual extinguisher inspection (seconded by Merle Noel). Each motion passed on unanimous roll call.
A separate procurement approval authorized a three-year quote for semi-annual fire alarm inspections for the Road Department (Protex Central) for 2026–2028; that motion passed on unanimous vote.
In a split vote on a roadway project, the board approved removing the bridge and installing a culvert on Road A between Road 10 and Road 11 in West Blue Township if the landowner agrees to split the cost 50/50. Supervisor Kenny Harre moved the measure and Supervisor Wade Sluka seconded. The roll call was Ayes: Larry Cerny, Ralph Graham, Kenny Harre, and Wade Sluka; Nays: Mark Lightwine, Jeff Neiman, and Merle Noel. Chairman Neiman declared the motion carried.
With no further business, the board adjourned at 10:58 a.m. after a unanimous roll call on the adjournment motion. County Clerk Amy Nelson certified the minutes as part of the official record.
