Leelanau County board ratifies four police bargaining agreements after closed session

The Leelanau County Board of Commissioners unanimously ratified multiple police bargaining agreements after reconvening from a closed session on collective-bargaining strategy.
Commissioner Mark Walter moved that the board "ratify the successor collective bargaining agreements with the FOPLC road sergeants, FOPLC corrections sergeants, and the FOPLC corrections division" and to authorize the board chair to sign the agreements upon approval as to form by the county’s legal counsel. The motion passed 7–0. Later, Walter moved to ratify the initial collective bargaining agreement with the FOPLC Executive Command Unit; that motion also passed unanimously.
The board had entered closed session under MCL 15.268(1)(c) to discuss negotiation strategy and allowed county counsel, the chief deputy, finance director and county administrator to participate. No detailed terms of the contracts were read into the open record at the meeting. Finance Director Cathy Hartesvelt and Chief Deputy Jennifer Zywicki were present and responded to commissioners’ questions during the open session financial review that followed.
The board authorized the chair to sign the agreements once county legal counsel approves the final documents. No vote totals beyond the unanimous tallies were recorded in the meeting minutes.
The board adjourned at 8:52 p.m.
