Board awards multiple facilities bids and ratifies emergency school closures

Jonathan (business operations) said multiple bids for facilities work came in below budget. Recommended awards included a boiler replacement at Indian Hills to BNS Boiler for approximately $258,000, classroom carpeting and VCT tile work to Wall to Wall (roughly $57,358 and $51,010 respectively), and roofing projects recommended to Briggs Roofing (totaling in the area of the budget line presented). Board members discussed the potential to reallocate savings to other priority projects and noted capacity constraints for how many projects low bidders could complete in a single season.
Separately, administrators presented resolutions and forms required by the state to ratify emergency school closures. The board adopted a resolution ratifying district closures on Feb. 14 for hazardous driving and an additional day required to repair a failed well pump at Tahee; administrators said the pump had been in service since 1991 and will be considered for regular replacement scheduling.
The board voted to award the listed bids and adopted the emergency closure resolution by voice votes. Staff indicated that savings from under-budget bids may be routed into next year’s SIP process to fund higher-priority projects identified by the school improvement planning committee.
