Mackinac County commissioners approve $30,000 for emergency boat, authorize $422,712.11 housing closing

The Mackinac County Board of Commissioners on July 25 approved several financing moves, including a $30,000 transfer from the Local At-Risk/Trauma Contingency Fund (LATCF) to make a port-security boat available for emergencies and authority for the treasurer to wire $422,712.11 to complete a housing-property purchase.
Emergency Manager Mike Kasper told commissioners the Coast Guard wants to repeat a recent "slingshot" exercise and that a boat purchased with a 2020 grant would be stored at the marina and be available for emergency response. Commissioner Jodi Kaiser moved to use $30,000 from the LATCF fund; the motion passed on a roll call vote with all five commissioners voting yes.
Treasurer Jennifer Goudreau said she will prepare a summary report on the county audit and asked the board to authorize a wire transfer to close on a housing property. The board granted Goudreau authority to wire $422,712.11 to Mackinac Abstract; the motion was moved by Commissioner Kaiser, seconded by Commissioner Corina Clark, and passed unanimously.
At the meeting the board also approved three sets of bills — regular bills totaling $23,339.85, manual bills totaling $147,648.45 and additional bills totaling $124,512.22 — and approved budget amendments #2024-34 and #2024-35. All of those votes were recorded as unanimous.
The approvals bundle routine fiscal business with targeted emergency-preparedness spending that county officials said will increase local response capacity. The housing closing authority gives the treasurer the immediate ability to complete a purchase the board has been preparing to finalize.
