Moody Council approves consent items, budget adjustments and subdivision street acceptance

At its Jan. 9 meeting the council unanimously approved software and equipment purchases, travel, rental, advertising, budget adjustments for capital projects, multiple bid awards, drainage-pipe purchase, accepted streets in The Reserve at the Highlands, and approved an employee compensation resolution.
Moody City Council completed a slate of routine business and formal votes at its Jan. 9 meeting, approving multiple purchases, budget revisions, bid awards and resolutions by unanimous vote of members present.
Procurements and purchases approved (motions carried unanimously): renewal of reporting software with Locality Media ($11,400); purchase of medical supplies from Bound Tree ($5,000), to be reimbursed by RPS Ambulance; maintenance/cleaning supplies from Momar Chemicals ($825); four Scott 45-minute SCBA bottles from EEP ($5,700); three Lenovo laptops for SROs from B&H Video ($1,728.33); trauma kits from Amazon ($1,200); travel for SRO Trenton Wicks to the TASRO conference in Gulf Shores (cost $1,500); and rental of an 8' x 20' trailer for police storage from Metro Trailers ($9,600 for 18 months, funded from AMIC). Park advertising in the Birmingham Bridal Directory (BBD) at $775 was also approved.
Budget and capital items: Council approved an adjustment to the 2022–2023 capital projects budget reducing storm shelter funding from $300,000 to $225,000 and the Blue Ridge Drive ditch allocation from $75,000 to $25,000; it also approved a $125,000 allocation to Moody High School's athletic department (listed as Mayor and Council expense).
Bids and contracts: The council accepted low bids and awarded projects: temporary office trailer for the Police Department (Project #22.006.13) to Metro Trailers at $41,368; annual asphalt road repair contract (Project #22.006.14) to Central Alabama Asphalt and Construction at $483,500; and the annual labor and material bid (Project #22.006.15) to Central Alabama Asphalt and Construction at $399,500. Council also approved purchase of drainage pipe for work along Blue Ridge Drive at the Starbucks project through the annual bid at $17,195.89.
Subdivision streets and personnel policy: Council approved Resolution R2023-01-09B to accept streets in The Reserve at the Highlands subdivision (Phases 1 and 2), release two street CDs to DR Horton, and accept the entrance from County Hwy 10 to the phase 1 intersection (curb, island, landscaping and sign remain HOA responsibility). Council then approved Resolution R2023-01-09A to amend compensation and set policy related to certain benefits of full-time employees. Each vote was recorded AYE by those present; Council Member Nick Rutledge was recorded absent.
Why it matters: These routine approvals move forward planned capital work, public-safety equipment purchases, and maintenance projects. The accepted bids commit city funds for roadwork and related projects and reallocate capital budget items.
