Moody City Council approves police promotions, department purchases and pump repairs at brief April 10 meeting

The Moody City Council on April 10, 2023 approved a slate of personnel actions, equipment purchases and a maintenance inspection request, then adjourned after a brief meeting.
Mayor Joe Lee opened the meeting. The council approved the published agenda on a motion by Council Member Lynn Taylor, seconded by Council Member Matt Morris. The council also approved the March 27, 2023 minutes on a motion by Council Member Ellis Key, seconded by Council Member Linda Crowe; the minutes were recorded as approved with all present voting AYE and with Council Member Nick Rutledge recorded as abstaining.
During departmental reports and agenda items, Police Department representative Reece Smith presented two personnel promotions. The council approved promotion of Jonathan Melton from sergeant to lieutenant and promotion of Brodie McGuffie from officer to sergeant; both motions were moved by Council Member Matt Morris, seconded by Council Member Lynn Taylor, and carried with all present voting AYE.
The council approved several procurement items: the purchase of four Goodyear tires for patrol car #359 at a cost of $680.00 (budget line 01-513-4502); additional library shelving from The Library Furniture Guy not to exceed $9,000 (budget 01-519-4900); and firefighting tools from Municipal Emergency Services for $3,150.00 (budget 01-514-5400). Each purchase was approved by recorded motion and an affirmative vote of the council.
Council Member Lynn Taylor also obtained approval to have two fire pump caps removed to investigate damage to pumps at the Moody Industrial Park. The vendor listed for that work is Hiller Companies, LLC, at a cost of $4,822.00 charged to the Fire Pump Account; the council approved the work on a motion by Taylor, seconded by Linda Crowe.
Mayor Lee moved to close the meeting at 6:15 p.m.; the motion was recorded and the meeting was closed with no further business.
The council did not record extended debate on any item; all listed motions were adopted as presented in the minutes.
