Moody City Council approves police training, equipment repairs, library subscription and public‑works repair

The Moody City Council on July 10 approved a package of routine, budgeted departmental expenditures covering police training, equipment repairs, a library subscription and a public‑works repair.
Police Department representative Reece Smith requested $600 to cover lodging and meal costs for the Police Annual Leadership Development Training scheduled July 14–16 in Glendale, Fla. Council Member Matt Morris moved to approve the $600 expenditure (budgeted item 01‑513‑1500); Council Member Ellis Key seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
Smith also sought approval to repair the department's TRU NARC Detection System through Fisher Scientific at a cost not to exceed $1,000 (budgeted item 01‑513‑4800). Morris moved to approve the repair; Council Member Linda Crowe seconded and the council voted unanimously to approve.
Library Director Sara Roberts requested renewal of the OverDrive subscription for ebooks and audiobooks for July 1, 2023–June 30, 2024 at a cost of $3,000 (vendor: OverDrive Inc., budgeted item 01‑519‑7200). Council Member Nick Rutledge moved to approve; Council Member Lynn Taylor seconded and the vote was unanimous.
Public Works representative Steve Mitchell requested repair of a bush hog drive shaft from Coblentz Equipment at a cost of $1,950 (budgeted item 01‑515‑2504). Council Member Matt Morris moved to approve; Council Member Nick Rutledge seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
Earlier in the meeting the council approved the published agenda (motion by Council Member Lynn Taylor, seconded by Council Member Linda Crowe) by unanimous vote and approved the June 26, 2023 minutes (motion by Council Member Nick Rutledge, seconded by Council Member Matt Morris); the minutes approval recorded one abstention from Council Member Ellis Key. Mayor Joe Lee moved to close the meeting at 6:23 p.m., concluding business for the evening.
