Commission approves Family Fitness Festival move to April 4, adds budget and instructor-certification requirements

The Cathedral City Parks and Community Events Commission voted March 3 to move the Family Fitness Festival to Saturday, April 4, to avoid calendar conflicts with other city events. Chair Hyland told commissioners, "So the date will be moved to Easter weekend, so it will be Saturday, April 4."

The commission approved a refined event budget that increases marketing and includes a small miscellaneous buffer; staff urged organizers to front-load expected costs (printing, signage and other materials) into the event budget so unspent allocations return to the general fund as appropriate. Staff also asked organizers to submit certification information for each instructor so the council packet can document the organizations certifying instructors. Commissioners agreed to list five anticipated instructors in the packet if that is what is available at submission time.

Commissioner McCollum moved to approve the updated festival item; Commissioner Herrera seconded and the motion carried with all ayes. The commission did not take additional formal action beyond approval of the date and the budget refinements.

The next procedural step is for staff to include the updated item in the city council packet and to receive instructor-certification details before publication of that packet.
