At its Jan. 18 meeting the Newton City Council approved the Jan. 4 minutes and unanimously approved the consent agenda, which included tax releases, sewer adjustments, ordinances to create capital project funds for the Young Drive and Westbrook Drive culvert replacement projects, approval of an easement for Charter Broadband on S. Ashe Avenue, and council committee appointments.
The council also received the city manager's report listing upcoming events — a Jan. 26 ribbon cutting for Warehouse Distillery, a Jan. 27 closed session regarding a personnel matter and the next regular council meeting on Feb. 1 — and department head updates from Public Works and Utilities Director Dusty Wentz, Human Resources Director Brandon Elrod and IT Director Chris Little. Council Member Jody Dixon gave a brief report on the Newton Depot during the council comment period.
By unanimous motion the council recessed the meeting until 6 p.m. Jan. 27 for a closed session under statute 143-318.11(a)(6) to discuss a personnel matter.
