Newton Water Treatment Plant wins AWOP "Gold Star" and 2021 Area Wide Optimization Program award

Mayor Pro Tem John Stiver told the council that the Newton Water Treatment Plant received the 2021 Area Wide Optimization Program (AWOP) Award, an honor supported by the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality and EPA Region 4. He said the plant also received a 'Gold Star' distinction for systems that have earned AWOP recognition for 10 consecutive years.
Stiver noted Newton has received the AWOP award every year since the program began in 2002 and said the awards demonstrate the experience and professional skill of plant and public-works staff. He commended the Water Treatment Plant and public-works personnel on behalf of the council.
