Oneida County committee awards snowmobile bridge contracts contingent on grant funds

The Oneida County Forestry, Land & Recreation Committee on March 10 approved awarding two previously engineered snowmobile bridge contracts on the condition the county secures additional grant funding.
Forestry staff member Rady told the committee that Cedar Corporation completed engineering and specifications for the Gilmore Creek and Pelican River Tr. 17 bridges but the bids exceeded available grant project funds by about $300,000 between the two projects. Rady said he plans to request additional funds from the Governor’s Council but cautioned that approval could take several months.
"The bids came in significantly higher than the funds currently available for each grant project," Rady said, and staff recommended awarding the contracts contingent on obtaining the additional grant money. Chair Robert Almekinder moved to award the contracts to the low bidders with that contingency; the committee approved the motion unanimously.
Rady did not specify a timeline for construction pending the grant decision. The committee recorded no firm additional local appropriation at the meeting and noted that awarding the contract contingent on grant funding keeps the county positioned to proceed quickly if funds arrive.
The committee asked staff to pursue the Governor’s Council funding request and report back to the committee on funding status at a future meeting.
