APS, Yavapai County urge preparedness; report low regional fire risk and tech upgrades

At the Feb. 25, 2026 special session, APS Northern Division Director Frank Sanderson and Yavapai County Emergency Manager Ashley Ahlquist briefed the Camp Verde Town Council on regional emergency-management practices.
Frank Sanderson said the safety of APS customers and communities is "paramount" and described current practices including vegetation management, grid-hardening investments, asset inspection and monitoring, and operational mitigations. He told the council APS has begun using drones and AI-equipped panel cameras for line patrols and that the system is currently at Preparedness Level 1.
Yavapai County Emergency Manager Ashley Ahlquist advised residents to prepare household emergency plans appropriate to their needs, sign up for local messages through the county's shared alert system (RAVE by Motorola) and register on the county's functional needs registry for assistance during evacuations. Ahlquist also encouraged neighbor coordination and volunteering with local organizations to support emergency response.
