Fulton County proclaims March 2026 Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month

FULTON COUNTY — The Fulton County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a proclamation Tuesday naming March 2026 Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month and welcomed local service providers to the meeting to sign the document.
Commissioner Hervey P. Hann moved to approve the proclamation, which recognizes that the county “becomes a better place when people with and without disabilities come together to form strong, diverse communities.” The motion carried with all commissioners voting in favor.
The signatories and attendees included representatives from Occupational Services Inc., CRI, Franklin/Fulton IDD Program, Full Circle Residence, Lupey Behavioral Services, Fulton County Human Services and The Arc of Franklin/Fulton Counties. Human Services Director Julie Dovey and other service providers described outreach and supports available locally; no formal county funding action was recorded at the meeting.
The proclamation was followed by a group photograph at the commissioners’ office. Commissioners said the designation is intended to raise public awareness of community services and encourage residents to support inclusion and access for people with developmental disabilities.
The proclamation is primarily symbolic and does not itself appropriate funds. The board’s action was procedural and approved during the regular meeting; the county will continue to receive input from Human Services staff about program needs and outreach efforts.
