Planning commission expresses support for Ferron annexation; schedules training and flags enforcement staffing needs

Commission members said the County Commission approved the county’s position supporting the city’s annexation and that the city will complete the remaining procedural steps; notices were sent to landowners within the required distance. The commission’s support means the county’s formal position aligns with the annexation petition as it moves forward.
The commission also scheduled a SERDA training session for March 5, 6:00–7:30 p.m. at the county building covering roles and responsibilities of planning commissioners, subdivision regulations, and the distinction between legislative and administrative actions. Members were encouraged to attend; a recording will be made available. Separately, members were reminded to complete the required online Open Public Meetings training and to submit completion certificates.
On staffing, Commissioner Leonard described outreach to other counties and noted that some employ full-time code enforcement personnel, raising questions about enforcement capacity and whether staffing changes are needed locally. Commissioners also discussed recruitment needs for additional board members to address absences and potential future vacancies.
No formal motions were recorded on the annexation or staffing discussion at this meeting. The next regular meeting is scheduled for March 11 at 11:00 a.m.
