WCC approves Lamar County console and radio upgrade; Madison Fire portable radio request cleared by committee

At its Feb. 5 meeting, the Mississippi Wireless Communication Commission approved a procurement request from Lamar County Emergency Management to replace unsupported dispatch consoles and purchase mobile radios, and the Procurement Committee reported that the City of Madison Fire Department's radio and paging upgrade received technical approval.
Commissioner Donald Loper, reporting for the Procurement Committee, described two procurement items from state contract 3429. The City of Madison Fire Department requested 19 APX6000 portable radios, 11 APX N70 portable radios, Command Central software and training for $219,441.23; the committee received the city's official board minutes and granted technical approval, requiring no further commission action. "Madison is upgrading radios to more user-friendly models and updating paging to operate on MSWIN," Loper said.
Lamar County Emergency Management requested seven dispatch consoles and 17 APX4500 mobile radios with accessories and installation for $341,182.41 because its dispatch consoles are no longer supported. The procurement received technical approval from the committee and Commissioner Loper moved to approve the purchase; Commissioner David Clanton seconded. Chairman Mandy Davis called for discussion and, hearing none, the motion carried by unanimous consent.
Commissioners also accepted the January FY2026 financial report after a motion by Commissioner Ernie Scarber, seconded by Commissioner David Clanton. The meeting adjourned after a motion by Commissioner Curtis Skipworth, seconded by Commissioner Ernie Scarber. Recorded attendance at roll call showed 13 commissioners present and 3 absent.
