Randolph County Commission approves resolutions, office relocations and alcohol fees; two commissioners abstain on ABC fees

The commission unanimously approved Resolution No. 2026-02A honoring Reverend Alan Hurst for his years of service and adopted a proclamation designating March and April 2026 as "Don't Drop It on Randolph County" months. The consent agenda (including Feb. 9 meeting minutes and a list of approved check payments) was approved unanimously.
The commission approved several administrative office relocations: moving the sheriff's office from Annex 3 to three suites on the courthouse first floor; relocating the Veterans Affairs office to Annex 3 and assigning its former suite to the circuit judge; and assigning one office in Annex 3 to the Department of Examiners of Public Accounts.
Commissioner Larry Roberts moved and Commissioner Pamela Johnson seconded adoption of the county's 2026-2027 alcohol licensing fees consistent with guidance from the Alabama Alcoholic Beverage Control Board; Commissioners Roberts, Johnson and Chris Lunsford voted "aye," and Chairman Farr and Commissioner Lorenzo Foster abstained. Chairman Farr declared the motion carried 3-0-2. The record includes an ABC Board memorandum (Sec. 28-3A-4, Code of Alabama) and a county fee schedule submitted for fiscal year 2026-2027.
The commission also authorized the county attorney to request an Attorney General opinion on whether capital improvement funds could be used to demolish the old county jail to expand courthouse parking; authorized an employee of the county highway department to access the catastrophic sick leave policy contingent on required paperwork; and approved April 18 as the 2026 Landfill Free Day. The meeting concluded with a unanimous motion to adjourn.
