Throughout 2023 the Sioux County Board oversaw a set of administrative decisions and contracts affecting county operations.
In January the board approved the audit performed by Contryman and Associates (motion Geiser/second Downer); the audit was later approved again after annual review and is available at the County Clerk's office. Commissioners also approved a multi-year audit contract with Contryman for 2023'025.
Personnel matters included final approval of the Sioux County Employee Handbook provided by Zelle Human Resource Solutions (motion Downer/second Geiser). The board also approved a 3% cost-of-living increase for employees for 2023 and voted to allow certain employees access to additional life-insurance options through NACO and National Insurance Services.
On predator control, USDA trapper Jesse McDonald presented the 2023'024 contract for predator-control services; commissioners voted to approve the contract and discussed equipment purchases, including a thermal scope the county would split costs on with Dawes County.
The board also oversaw the courthouse window restoration project, meeting with architect Jerry Berggren and Randal Weber (custom woodworking) on multiple occasions, approving change orders, authorizing a reduction of retainage from 10% to 5% and setting a substantial-completion review date.
