Sioux County approves One & Six Year Road Plan, greenlights chip-seal and gravel contracts

After a public hearing, the board accepted the One and Six Year Road Plan presented by Road Superintendent Jim Phipps (motion Geiser/second Downer). The plan list and public hearing were recorded at the March meeting, and the board's acceptance authorizes the county to plan and prioritize multi-year road work.
Separately the board approved a gravel contract with Chase Staudenmaier and reported gravel crushing at multiple pits (Lange, Jordan, Staudenmaier). It also approved a chip/seal project for Monroe Canyon Road after discussion, and later payments to Topkote for chip sealing work were recorded in fund ledgers.
County staff and the board repeatedly approved Centurylink and Lumen permits for installation of fiber-optic cable in county rights-of-way for Morrill Road and Henry Road; approvals cite compliance with Sioux County regulations and require coordination with the Road Superintendent to manage construction impacts.
Commissioners recorded motions to surplus older vehicles and to purchase replacement service equipment and trucks for the road department, and they authorized repairs to heavy equipment (e.g., blades). Road Superintendent Jim Phipps was the regular county point of contact for project coordination and scheduling.
