The Sioux County Board of Commissioners adopted its 2023–24 budget and set the county's property tax request at $1,522,319.18, a figure the board said would yield a proposed tax rate of 0.219076.
The action followed a public budget and tax-request hearing on Sept. 11, after which Commissioner Hal Downer moved to approve the budget and Commissioner J.W. Geiser seconded. All three commissioners voted in favor. County Clerk Michelle Zimmerman also provided published notices of the hearing in advance, as required.
Commissioners also voted to approve an additional one-percent increase in the base limitation of restricted funds and adopted the formal resolutions of appropriation that authorize offices and departments to spend the amounts in the approved budget. The board noted the budget document is available for public inspection at the Sioux County Clerk's office.
The budget adoption completes the county's annual fiscal process and sets levy authority used to fund general operations, road work and other county services for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2023 and ending June 30, 2024. The board scheduled related hearings and reported that supporting materials and the formal resolutions are on file with the county clerk.
