Sioux County approves appointments, routine personnel actions and several equipment purchases

Across regular meetings in 2012 the Sioux County Board of Commissioners handled routine personnel, appointments and procurement matters.
In January the board approved a 3 percent raise for county employees for 2012. The board made multiple annual appointments in January to regional bodies (Aging Agency of Western Nebraska, Panhandle boards, Region 23 Emergency Management and others) and formed the Sioux County Grievance Committee. During the year the board appointed Steve Johnson and LeAnne Skavdahl to the zoning board and later appointed Gary Thayer as County Highway Superintendent (Dec. 3).
Procurement actions included approval of janitorial contracts (Karen Domingo awarded the contract at $1,200 per month effective Oct. 1), purchases of a belly dump trailer for $18,000 and a 2005 International truck for $19,900 to bolster road operations, and the sheriff’s purchase of a pickup for $23,950. The board also approved Security First Bank as county depository and designated the Crawford Clipper/Harrison Sun as the county’s official newspaper for 2012.
Several personnel items were addressed: the board allowed an unpaid one-month leave of absence for a road employee beginning June 1; it hired seasonal and temporary road employees as vacancies arose; and it scheduled interviews and a special meeting to fill a Road Foreman vacancy. Where motions occurred, roll call votes were recorded.
