Sioux County approves road plan updates, contracts and equipment purchases

The board approved temporary truck load and speed limits intended to protect roads (a 13-ton limit on Toadstool Road during specific months and later a temporary 35 mph speed limit). The board accepted multiple gravel crushing bids (Kustom Rock Crushing, Mark Chrisman, Kustom Crushing again later) and authorized purchases of heavy equipment: a backhoe purchase for $40,235 and authority for Road Foreman Gordon Mathis to purchase a pickup under a $20,000 limit. The board also received a Forest Service presentation on options for a low-water crossing at Montrose Bridge and sign implementation progress for county roads.
Road staffing actions were taken: David Saults was moved from probationary to full-time status on motion and vote; the board also approved hiring temporary and part-time help for debris removal and advertised for full-time maintenance positions later in the year. The board authorized Gordon Mathis to sign FEMA paperwork for debris reimbursement related to the October Atlas storm.
