Sioux County commissioners adopted the county budget for fiscal year July 1, 2025–June 30, 2026, and set the county’s property tax request at $1,683,687.08, producing a proposed tax rate of .207181.
The action followed a public budget and tax-request hearing on Sept. 26, 2025 at which no members of the public spoke. A motion to adopt the budget was made by Commissioner J.W. Geiser and seconded by Commissioner Hal Downer; both commissioners present voted yes and the motion carried. County Clerk Michelle Zimmerman presented the required notices and budget summary prior to the vote.
The resolution of adoption authorizes appropriations and directs that revenues, unencumbered cash balances and tax levy requirements finance the county’s expenditures for the coming fiscal year. Commissioners also approved a separate motion to allow a one-percent increase in the base limitation of restricted funds.
The county recorded that the hearing notice and summary were printed in the Crawford Clipper/Harrison Sun and posted in the courthouse as required. The adopted budget and the Resolution 2025-5 are available for public inspection at the Sioux County Clerk’s office.
Procedurally, the motion and resolution were passed by the two commissioners present at the hearing (Geiser and Downer); records show Chairman Josh Skavdahl was not among the two commissioners listed on the roll call for that meeting segment. The county clerk’s office will publish the adopted budget and make it available for public review as required by state law.
