Rural Fire Chief Nick Barney reported that an older fire truck experienced a motor failure; parts will be ordered and the department expects a higher-than-usual bill from NAPA. Undersheriff Jared Helkernberg reported ongoing leaking into the Sheriff's Office during recent rain; Shepard Farms plans to seal the door to address the issue.
Gary Ward from Road & Bridge presented a $6,000 bid for a mower gearbox and requested pricing for a new ditch hitch. Ward also outlined interest in a used 2019 motor grader with about 3,100 hours priced at $139,600 to replace an older grader with roughly 14,000 hours; commissioners asked for additional pricing and details before any purchase decision.
Representatives from uniform vendors presented options: Luke from Cintas (Wichita) offered Thursday service and pricing, while Bret Mason of Unifirst discussed a national joint power alliance but did not present a bid. Road & Bridge uniform needs were specified as cotton shirts and jeans for three employees, hi-vis shirts for eight employees, and 100 shop towels per month. Solid Waste will honor its current Unifirst agreement until it expires on April 29, 2026, but intends not to renew.
Commissioner Kevin Stuber proposed forming a county safety committee with a representative from each department; the Clerk's Office will begin work on a handbook committee. The board approved vouchers totaling $92,161.43 after a motion by Stuber and a second by Sedlacek. The meeting recessed for five minutes mid-session and adjourned at 11:04 a.m.
No contested roll-call votes were recorded in the minutes; motions passed by voice vote where indicated.
