Road & Bridge staff told the Woodson County Board of Commissioners on Feb. 24 that they had negotiated the purchase of a CAT 140 motor grader for $135,000 to replace a high-hour unit. Gary Ward reported the old grader will be sold on Purple Wave. Commissioner Jerry Sedlacek moved to approve the purchase from Special Machinery; Commissioner Justin Clark seconded and the motion passed.
Gary Ward also presented quotes for a new ditch hitch (estimated $32,000, available in June) and a replacement mower gearbox for $6,484.12. Justin Clark moved to approve the mower gearbox purchase; the motion was seconded and passed. Ward said Road & Bridge is developing a dust control program and is obtaining quotes to replace shop windows.
Commissioners discussed financing options, including a rotation plan for equipment replacement and whether to lease or buy a used tractor to pull the reclaimer. The minutes record that the budget will support the grader purchase while covering remaining lease payments.
