Moody City Council approves fireworks, equipment purchases, licenses and zoning amendment

Mayor Joe Lee called the Moody City Council to order at 6:00 p.m. on June 13, 2022. The council approved the published agenda and the minutes of May 23, 2022, by unanimous vote.
Park and Recreation director Mike Staggs asked the council to approve a July 9 fireworks show contracted with Pyro Shows for $12,500 and related festival expenses (signage, T‑shirts, portable toilets, live entertainment and radio), with total spending not to exceed $15,000. Council Member Matt Morris moved the contract; Nick Rutledge seconded. The motion passed with four AYE votes; Council Member Linda Crowe voted NO.
The council approved routine public‑safety purchases and training requests. The Fire Department received authorization to buy additional lights for the R‑1 truck from WEAL LED’s for $2,550 and to purchase $12,000 in non‑disposable medical supplies (budgeted to capital projects). The council also approved sending Skyler Cope to Firefighter I & II school (Sept. 19–Nov. 19, 2022) at a cost of $1,100, and authorized Lt. Reece Smith to attend police training in Foley, Ala., in August 2022 at a cost of $1,300. All these motions carried unanimously.
The council granted an ABC Board 140 special‑event retail license to OH Sherri Pub LLC for a Miata Reunion on July 29, 2022 (event hours 7 p.m.–midnight, subject to the city noise ordinance). It also approved a new retail beer and wine license (050 and 070) for FRESH VALUE MOODY at Crossroads Plaza Drive in Moody. Both license motions passed unanimously.
On infrastructure and municipal facilities, the council accepted public streets in Avalon Subdivision for upkeep and maintenance only after the subdivision agreed to pay 75% of the engineer’s estimated repair costs; the motion also included amending the resolution accordingly. The council approved repair of two library parking‑lot lights by Lindley Electric at $622. Both motions were carried unanimously.
The council adopted Ordinance 2022‑05‑23, amending the City of Moody zoning regulations (Article X) related to signs. It also approved sending a city employee to Leadership St. Clair at a cost of $600 and adopted Resolution R2022‑06‑13 to implement an Electronic Meeting Policy pursuant to Alabama Code Section 36‑25A‑5.2. Those measures passed by unanimous votes.
