Moody City Council unanimously approves routine repairs, equipment purchases and Springview streets acceptance

Moody City Council unanimously approved a slate of routine repairs, equipment purchases and a resolution to accept public streets in the Springview Subdivision at its Sept. 26 meeting.
The council approved repairs to five city vehicles and replacement police lights, totaling several thousand dollars from the fleet maintenance budget (01-513-4502). It also approved a $2,000 purchase of miscellaneous uniforms (01-513-4700) and the surplus and disposition of about 250 withdrawn library items to be offered for sale for at least four weeks with remaining items donated to local nonprofits, per library policy.
Why it matters: These motions reflect routine upkeep and operating expenses that keep city services running and use budgeted line items. The council’s unanimous votes meant no further action or study was required for these items.
Council approved a $2,688 purchase of two Heartsine 350P automated external defibrillators for the Fire Department, funded through ARAP funds for PPE and emergency medical equipment. The council also authorized payment of $1,800 to Green and Associates for an appraisal of a commercial parcel on Carl Jones Road and approved travel for Andrea Machen to attend a retail conference in Nashville for up to $1,600 (Commercial Development 01-510-1500).
Attorney Joel Watson briefed the council on Resolution R2022-09-26 to accept the public streets in Springview Subdivision for city upkeep (streets only). "The City of Moody requires that subdivisions pay 75% of any necessary repairs to streets before it will accept them for maintenance and upkeep," Watson said. Moody City Engineer Keith Hager reported that Springview’s streets are in good condition and do not require repairs at this time; Hager also recommended the city not accept sidewalks and common areas, which the council left under the Springview Homeowners Association’s responsibility. The council approved Resolution R2022-09-26 by unanimous vote.
Other approved expenses included $5,311.83 for printing and postage of annual fire donation cards (01-522-2100 and 01-512-2200), an estimated $1,500 (not to exceed $2,000) purchase of a laptop and livestreaming software for the Civic Center (Admin IT 01-512-2503), 50 Veterans Day banners and brackets (estimated $1,475, vendor C.A.S.T.), and $425.90 in giveaway items for Oktoberfest.
All motions were moved and seconded by council members and carried by unanimous AYE votes; Mayor Joe Lee presided and closed the meeting at 6:12 p.m. The minutes were approved later and certified on Oct. 10, 2022.
The meeting recorded no contested votes or requests to table items beyond the August 22 minutes, which were postponed until the Oct. 10 meeting.
