Residents raise concerns about library matter, animal shelter levy and missing meeting audio as commissioners approve consent calendar

Several residents used the three-minute public-comment period at the Josephine County Board of Commissioners’ March 4, 2026, weekly business session to raise local concerns, while the board approved routine items on the consent calendar by a unanimous vote.

Greg Baker of Grants Pass spoke in support of Michael Crissafuli as airports manager. Victor J., of Grants Pass, praised the current board’s professionalism and spoke in opposition to an animal shelter tax levy. Judy Ahearns, identified as from Josephine County, commented on international news concerning Iran and the United States. Toni Webb, of Grants Pass, raised concerns about buyers identified as Ameri-Commercial purchasing property and the potential for property tax loss if the use changes. Kathleen, of Grants Pass, spoke in favor of the board’s professionalism, voiced opposition to a library matter that was on the agenda, and raised concerns about the lack of audio for recent Admin Workshop meetings; Eva Avery of Grants Pass also mentioned missing audio during those workshops.

The minutes state the board "addressed public comments," but they do not record detailed responses or board actions tied to the individual remarks. Following public comment, Commissioner Gary Richardson moved to approve the consent calendar (which included draft minutes from the Rural Planning Commission meeting on Jan. 26, 2026; the Admin Workshop of Feb. 26, 2026; and the Weekly Business Session of Feb. 27, 2026). Commissioner Colene Martin seconded the motion; a roll-call vote recorded Richardson - yes; Martin - yes; Smith - yes, and the motion carried 3-0.
