The Newton City Council on June 1 adopted its Fiscal Year 2022 budget following a public hearing and a May 10 budget work session. City Manager Todd Clark presented the revised recommendation before the council voted to adopt the ordinance.
The adopted budget reflects changes discussed at the work session, including a $63,500 appropriation from fund balance and corresponding General Fund expenditure increases (Administration $45,500; Main Street $18,000). Council Member Ed Sain moved to adopt the Fiscal Year 2022 Budget; Council Member Anne Wepner seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.
Council also approved the consent agenda without discussion. Items on the consent agenda included sewer adjustments; an amendment to the city's Uniform Guidance Procurement Standards policy; street closure requests for planned community events at Novel Taproom/Community Brewing Ventures and Narrow Coffee & Nosh; a resolution approving a memorandum of agreement relating to the opioid litigation settlement; and acceptance of American Rescue Plan grant funds. The consent motion was made by Mayor Pro Tem John Stiver and seconded by Council Member Ed Sain and carried unanimously.
The council closed the public hearing on the budget after no members of the public appeared to comment. The meeting adjourned after routine council reports and operational updates.
The budget ordinance and referenced resolutions are on file in the office of the City Clerk; the council did not record roll-call vote differences, and minutes show each action approved by unanimous vote.
