Newton City Council entered closed session under North Carolina General Statute 143-318.11(a)(6) on Sept. 21 to continue the evaluation of City Manager Todd Clark. Mayor Eddie Haupt called the closed session and recognized Mayor Pro Tem John Stiver to lead the evaluation discussion. Stiver shared observations and ratings that had been provided to the mayor and himself; after discussion, council took no formal action during the closed session and returned to open session.
The closed session was limited to personnel evaluation matters under the cited state statute; no votes or personnel actions were recorded in open session at the meeting.
