Newton City Council approves minutes and consent agenda; adopts water system emergency plan update

The Newton City Council unanimously approved the Sept. 21, 2021 meeting minutes and a consent agenda at its Oct. 5, 2021 regular meeting held at City Hall. The consent agenda included four listed items: adoption of the 2021 Drinking Water System Emergency Response Plan update; a budget ordinance amendment to recognize donations to the Police Department for community engagement initiatives; approval of street closures; and a proclamation naming Oct. 17, 2021 Community Hunger Awareness Day.
Council Member Jerry Hodge moved to approve the minutes; Mayor Pro Tem John Stiver seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. Council Member Ed Sain moved to approve the consent agenda with Council Member Anne Wepner seconding; that motion likewise passed unanimously. Present for the vote were Mayor Eddie Haupt, Mayor Pro Tem John Stiver, and Council Members Jerry Hodge, Anne Wepner, Jody Dixon, Beverly Danner and Ed Sain.
The council record notes that ordinances, resolutions and proclamations referenced on the consent agenda are on file in the Office of the City Clerk. The Drinking Water System Emergency Response Plan update was listed among the consent items; no separate public discussion or amendment of that plan was recorded in the meeting transcript.
