Brooke County Commission approves order on commissioner resignation, opens application process for Nov. 3 ballot

The Brooke County Commission unanimously approved an order on March 3 regarding “Commissioner Thomas’s” resignation and authorized advertising the vacancy for the Nov. 3, 2026 general election, the commission record shows.

Commissioner Stacey Wise moved for the action, Commissioner Thomas R. Diserio seconded, and the motion passed without recorded opposition. At the same time the commission approved naming Thomas R. Diserio as president of the commission.

The commission tabled reassignment of board seats formerly held by the resigning commissioner—positions on the Senior Citizen Board, Library Board, BHJ Board, Local Emergency Board, Business Development Board and the Brooke County Ambulance Authority Board—while leaving open that the departing commissioner “would like to still serve on the Business Development Board.”

The clerk’s minutes list letters of interest for the seat filed with the clerk’s office: Robert V. Carroll Jr., Joey Ewusiak, William Thomas Ludewig and Christina White. The record shows the commission will allow two weeks for additional interested parties to submit applications for the vacancy.

The action will be advertised to solicit candidates to fill the seat on the ballot for the November general election in the Follansbee District. No interim appointment or further reassignment of the vacated board seats was made at the March 3 session.

The meeting record does not identify the departing commissioner by first name; it refers to the matter throughout as “Commissioner Thomas.”
