Millville to revise Planning Commissioner appointment process; applicants to submit expanded applications and speak at April meeting

Mayor and council agreed to expand the online application, add screening questions, review applications in advance, allow two-minute applicant introductions, and select new commissioners at the April meeting when a full council is expected to be present.
Mayor David Hair proposed changing the process used at the prior meeting, saying it had caught some applicants off guard. Councilmembers discussed alternatives including returning to a practice where the council member assigned to Planning and Zoning made a recommendation or having the full council review applications and make the selection at a regular meeting.
The council agreed to update the online application form with additional questions to give members more information, to review expanded applications in advance, and to hear two-minute introductions from each candidate during a council meeting. Recorder Corey Twedt and Development Coordinator Kara Everton will update the online application and post notice for two Planning Commissioner positions to be filled at the April City Council meeting when Councilmember Pamela June will be in attendance.
The council also voiced a preference for discussing and selecting appointees during a public council meeting rather than handling selection outside of the normal meeting process.
