Millville council approves moving forward on 550 East widening, acknowledges funding gap

Recorder Corey Twedt and Public Works Director Chad Kendrick presented a proposal to begin design and right-of-way work for widening 550 East (from 100 South toward 300 South) using Road Impact Fee funds. Director Kendrick noted the work would focus on widening the east side of the roadway and that roughly 100 homes are already connected to the sewer system, an unrelated but concurrent public-works update.
Councilmember Jacob Ames advocated completing the full two-block widening even if the cost exceeds available impact-fee funds, noting right-of-way acquisition will likely be required. Recorder Twedt said the Council can consider supplementing impact fees with Capital Project Funds once cost estimates are available.
Ames moved to proceed with the 550 East widening project as outlined, acknowledging the project may exceed available impact fee funds; Councilmember Darcy Ripplinger seconded. The motion passed 4–0 with Councilmember Jeremy Ward excused.
Next steps: staff to develop cost estimates and right-of-way plans and return with funding options and timeline for construction.
