Deuel County approves $45,000 appraisal contract, clears building permit and payroll claims

The Deuel County Board of Commissioners on March 3 approved a $45,000 annual contract with Cardinal Assessment Group LLC for countywide property appraisals, authorized a residential building permit, and approved payroll and claims totaling $114,809.97.
County Assessor Michele Bartlett presented the appraisal contract, saying the firm would perform the county’s 2026 appraisals for an annual fee of $45,000. Commissioner Jean Timm moved to approve the contract; Commissioner William Klingman seconded the motion, which passed with Timm, Klingman and Chairperson Jim Reichman voting aye.
Planning and Zoning Administrator and Assessor Michele Bartlett also presented a building permit for David and Mandy Zorn for construction of a house, garage and an additional building. Commissioner William Klingman moved to approve the permit; Chairperson Jim Reichman seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
On financial matters, Commissioner Klingman moved and Commissioner Timm seconded approval of payroll and claims in the amount of $114,809.97 (payroll $45,934.65; claims $68,875.32). The motion carried with Klingman and Timm voting aye and Chairperson Reichman recorded as abstaining on the claims approval.
The board reviewed routine departmental reports, including the County Court fee report for February ($2,633.66) and the County Clerk’s February report ($1,403.99). The next regular meeting was scheduled for March 17, 2026.
