Staff reports: AMI meters, reconductoring, generator rebuilds and SCADA upgrade

During staff reports the board heard brief updates across several operational topics.
Operations staff (S9) described construction and reconductoring projects: a completed tie-in on 3700 West, work on 2800 West with poles set and wire to be pulled, and an Old Highway 91 line nearing completion by contractor Black & McDonald. Staff said contractors will complete remaining pole work next week and that ongoing subdivision terminations are being processed.
On metering, staff reported receipt of many residential AMI meters and installation of four gateways, with one gateway currently communicating and commercial devices still awaited; testing is expected in the coming weeks. S4 said the department is aiming to have the AMI gateways communicating before broad meter deployments so meter placement is not limited.
Staff (S10) provided details on a recent generator rebuild and testing. He said a recent unit ran fine during a test and is scheduled to be put under load; the parts tally for the rebuild is roughly $140,000, a substantial saving compared with the multi-million-dollar cost of a new unit. The board discussed relay troubleshooting and substation construction progress; S10 reported footings and conduit work with a planned floor pour.
S10 also said the utility is starting a SCADA programming upgrade with CPL Engineering; the plan includes shadowing by in-house technician Brent so the city can assume more of the work in future years.
Board members congratulated apprentices who passed recent exams and asked follow-ups about warranty and schedule timing. Chair (S1) closed staff reports and the board set its next meeting for April 8 before adjourning.
