Snowville officials received public‑safety updates from the Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office deputy assigned to the town, the fire chief and the ambulance lead at the Feb. 11 meeting.
Deputy Shaw gave January activity counts (including citizen assists, accidents and extra patrols) and summarized a recent dispatch reorganization: several incorporated municipalities (Tremonton, Brigham City, Perry and Garland) moved dispatch contracts to Weber County, but Box Elder County remains Snowville’s dispatch provider. "As far as the rest of Box Elder County, including us, we remain unchanged," he said, noting some confusion where the switch took effect elsewhere.
Fire Chief Jed said Box Elder County continues to provide dispatch services and explained mutual‑aid and stipend arrangements for responses outside Snowville; Jed also said some municipalities’ choices to move dispatching have had mixed results. The council discussed occasional geo‑fencing issues for neighboring Stone (a community across the state line) and the practicalities of cross‑jurisdictional calls.
Ambulance lead Dave reported the ambulance has been busier recently and confirmed the town’s per‑capita grant application cycle is underway. "The per‑capita grant paperwork is in and that's the 2027 one," he said, and staff noted receipts and the grant reporting deadline for the current cycle are due in June; the council asked staff to coordinate documentation submissions and receipts for grant eligibility.
Jed and Dave also noted a policy decision: EMTs will not respond in personal vehicles with lights to calls going forward; ambulance responses and reimbursement rules are governed by county arrangements and by patient billing practices. Council and staff agreed to continue coordination with Box Elder County dispatch and to monitor any broader changes to county dispatching or ambulance coverage.
