Snowville volunteers, council discuss park irrigation failures, mower replacement and grant options

Volunteer Kjerstin (Wilcock) described attempts to locate buried boxes and said some sprinkler lines had no water. She said repairs and grass replanting were constrained by seasonal water‑turn on dates and limited hours allocated to park work. "We need to dig up an entire line and move that whole box," she said, describing manual work that exceeded available hours.
Councilmembers said the town must stay within the approved seasonal budget for park labor; they suggested short‑term volunteer labor and looking for grants. Kjerstin proposed pursuing City Parks & Recreation grants and school partnership programs for low‑maintenance landscaping projects. "It'll be an upfront cost, but hopefully reduce labor and water in the future," she said.
Council asked staff and volunteers to explore grant options and to coordinate with a local contractor who may know the buried valve locations. Members also discussed the town mower’s deteriorating condition; previous major repairs were cited and council agreed to explore grant funding or budgeted replacement options.
No formal vote was taken; council directed staff to investigate grant opportunities and to return with cost estimates and possible funding sources.
