Austin proclaims Greater Austin Regional Science and Engineering Fair Days, organizers report record participation

Austin City Council on Feb. 5 proclaimed Feb. 18–20, 2026 as Greater Austin Regional Science and Engineering Fair Days and heard organizers describe record participation.
Council Member Jose Velasquez said the fair — running since 1956 — will showcase more than 3,000 elementary through high‑school students from public, charter, private and home schools across 14 counties including Travis and Williamson.
A representative for the fair thanked the city and organizers, reporting "record participation this year," with more than 100 additional middle‑ and high‑school projects and about 50 more elementary entries, and noting the volunteer base of more than 500 people and nearly 300 judges.
The proclamation recognized the Austin Science Educational Foundation for its management role and stressed the fair’s role in fostering STEM pathways for the region’s workforce.
