City staff brief committee on CAMPO call for projects and congressional community project requests

City staff told the Mobility Committee that regional and federal funding opportunities are imminent and that the city is preparing candidate project lists for both CAMPO and congressional community project funding.
Richard Mendoza said the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO) call for projects could make roughly $383–$384 million available through several programs and that the city's candidate list will be posted as backup for the Jan. 22 council meeting for approval and submission to CAMPO. "Around $383 $384,000,000 is estimated to be made available through 3 succinct programs," he said.
Erica Zangare, deputy director of legislative affairs with Austin Government Relations, summarized the congressional community project funding process, said departmental submissions were due Jan. 16, and described ongoing coordination with the city's congressional delegates and the city's grants and legislative branches. She told the committee staff will continue outreach to explain submission procedures and to help departments align requests with delegate priorities.
Council members asked whether changing congressional maps affect the process; Zangare said the government relations office will continue to work with delegates and keep the council informed.
