The Town of Randolph Planning & Zoning Board on Feb. 4 postponed a decision on a homeowner’s pole‑barn project after a building inspector issued a stop‑work order and the property owner said she did not have a survey showing property setbacks.
Tiffany Hoffman, who attended the meeting as a guest, told the board she began building a pole barn intended to cover an RV and that the structure includes a shipping container and decks. She told members she plans to build a house on the lot later but does not yet have a plot map showing setbacks.
Board members said they could not evaluate the project without a survey and clear setback information. The board also asked Clerk April Groll to check with the county recorder’s office about whether the town still owns the vacated Duck Street adjacent to the property, a question that could affect lot lines and setback calculations. The building inspector issued a stop‑work order because the owner had not sought planning and zoning approval, the board said.
The board advised Hoffman not to continue work on the project until the town has reviewed required documentation. Hoffman said she would have her surveyor submit the property surveys. The planning and zoning members also said they will visit the site to check whether the structure meets setback rules. The board continued the matter to its next meeting on March 4, 2026.
At the start of the meeting the board approved the previous month’s minutes on a motion by Jayson Limb, seconded by Glenn Smith. The meeting convened at 7:00 p.m. and adjourned at 7:30 p.m. after a motion to close by Tammy Hoffman, seconded by Limb; the board recorded unanimous votes on both procedural motions.
The board did not make a binding determination on code compliance, setbacks or property ownership at the Feb. 4 meeting; those items remain unresolved and are scheduled for follow‑up at the March 4 session.
