Planning commission approves agricultural conservation easement, forwards it to County Commissioners

The Sioux County Planning Commission approved a Conservation/Agricultural Land Easement application from Bud and Jamie Hamaker at its May 28, 2025 meeting and voted to forward the application to the Sioux County Board of Commissioners.
Commission members were told the easement is intended to preserve the property’s grass for haying, grazing and cattle production and would not change existing land use. The motion to approve the application and forward it to the county commissioners was made by Steve Johnson and seconded by Jebb Ginkens; the roll-call vote recorded Cynthia Kaan, Jim Phipps, LeAnne Skavdahl, Jebb Ginkens and Steve Johnson as voting yes.
The minutes record that Hamaker family members were present to answer questions; no conditions or modifications to the easement were noted in the commission minutes. The application will move to the county commission for its consideration under the county’s normal review process.
