Sioux County Board of Equalization hears property protests, upholds most assessor recommendations

Ovid and Kathryn Reece appeared to contest classifications and the assessed value of their home (parcels #830072701 and #830032762). The assessor, Michelle Zimmerman, explained land-class distinctions ("HOME" as house plus one acre, "SITE" classification tied to zoning and splits from agriculture). The board voted to change the land classifications on one parcel per the assessor's recommendation and to make no change to the dwelling value on parcel #830072701.
Several other protests were handled in sequence. No one appeared for Paul Post's protests (#830004114 and #830004262); the board made no changes. William and Anne Wilson presented multiple protests and offered broader comments about conservation easements, state-level valuation debates, and local agricultural economics; the board made no changes to the listed parcels following the assessor's recommendations. The board closed the hearings at 11:25 a.m. following a motion by Hal Downer and a second by J.W. Geiser; roll-call votes on each protest are recorded in the minutes.
