County Clerk Michelle Zimmerman presented certified levy rates to the Sioux County Board of Commissioners during the Oct. 1, 2024 meeting and the board approved them by motion. The levies presented on Oct. 1 were: Sioux County (.212090), Harrison Rural Fire District (.028995), Sioux County Agricultural Society (.005178), Sioux County High School (.651179), and Village of Harrison (.433143). The board approved these rates by roll-call vote.
On Oct. 18, 2024, the clerk presented the Sheep Creek & Farmers Rural Fire District levy (.036931); Max and Bonnie Cawiezel attended that meeting and Mr. Cawiezel answered questions about the fire district before the board approved the levy on motion and roll-call vote.
Why it matters: Certified levies set tax rates used to calculate property tax bills for county residents and local taxing districts. The approvals recorded in the minutes complete the county’s certification step required before tax statements are prepared.
What the record does not include: The minutes provide the levy rates but do not include estimated dollar revenue totals tied to each rate or explanatory staff analysis in the public minutes.
