Sioux County approves agricultural conservation easement for Hamaker trust

The Sioux County Board of Commissioners, sitting as the Board of Equalization, approved a conservation easement for land held by Paul G. Hamaker, Trustee, on June 2, 2025. County officials said the easement is intended to preserve grass for haying, grazing and cattle production and will not change existing land use.
The Sioux County Planning Commission recommended approval of the Agricultural Land easement. Commissioner J.W. Geiser moved to approve the application; Commissioner Hal Downer seconded. On roll call, Downer, Geiser and Chairman Josh Skavdahl voted yes and the motion carried.
The board took the action during its regular meeting in Harrison; no dissenting votes were recorded. The minutes show the agenda was approved and the matter was considered with the Clerk present. The meeting adjourned later that day.
